Experimental Sounds and Cultural Fusion.

@onomwamii , a rising star from East Africa, is rapidly reshaping the region’s music scene with a distinctive sound that fuses local rhythms and global influences. His debut single, “Rektless,” a hip hop-infused house anthem, immediately captured attention for its innovative blend of styles, setting the tone for a career defined by experimentation and cultural fluidity.

Born and raised in Uganda’s fast-evolving capital, Kampala, and having spent significant time in Kenya and beyond, @onomwamii ‘s music reflects a rich tapestry of East African sounds intertwined with genres such as dance, alternative, new wave, afro house, and electro-pop. This eclecticism has earned him a loyal cult following and recognition from international tastemakers who see him as a leading voice in contemporary African music. Mwami’s artistic journey began with his 2019 debut EP, Protean, a compact yet diverse project spanning techno, house, jazz, and bedroom pop. The EP was executive produced by Polish producer @YS and featured collaborations with Valkyrie and @bearnyah , marking the start of a fruitful creative partnership.

Building on this foundation, Mwami released his debut album Olympean in late 2024, expanding his sonic palette to include house, kidandali, garage, zouk, disco pop, afro fusion, and hip hop. The 12-track album showcases some of East Africa’s most promising voices and has been performed on major festival stages like @nyegenyegefest , @mellowfest_ , Tangaza & Friends , and @xpressionsug . Beyond music, Mwami’s creativity extends into visual storytelling. Inspired by characters from a graphic novel zine linked to his debut EP, he co-wrote and co-directed “The Olympean Collection”, a trilogy of short films that deepen the narrative of his album. These films have been screened internationally in Nairobi, Toronto, and New York, highlighting Mwami’s multidisciplinary approach to art.
